Hall of Fame Inductees



The Canadian Information Productivity Awards (CIPA) has established the CIPA Hall of Fame to recognize individuals who have made a lasting contribution to innovation in Canada through the development, management and/or championing of information technology.

 

2006 Hall of Fame Inductee-

Lionel Hurtubise, whose outstanding leadership expanded the frontiers of Canada's telecommunications industry, has joined the Hall of Fame. A native of Montreal, Hurtubise became president of International Systcoms Ltd. in 1977 and took the company to a position of dominance in the Canadian mobile radiotelephone field. He was instrumental in the formation of Westech Systems Ltd., which developed Canada's first cellular mobile telephone network. Hurtubise was appointed president and CEO of Ericsson Canada Inc. in 1986 and was chairman from 1994 until June 2005. He was an important builder of industry associations and a key figure in forging strategic relationships between Canadian universities and the telecommunications industry.

The Hall of Fame Selection Panel for 2006 included five members of the Hall of Fame: Denzil Doyle (inducted 2001), Bill Hutchison (2000), John Kelly (2004), Roger Mahabir (1995) and Carol Stephenson (2005).
